General Information & Basic Infrastructure

1. What is the history of IIT Gandhinagar?
        IIT Gandhinagar is one of the eight new IITs that were established by the government of
India in 2008-09. The institute started with undergraduate programs in Electrical,
Mechanical and Chemical Engineering in 2008.

2. What is the situation with the permanent campus?
The government of Gujarat has recently allotted land to IIT Gandhinagar for its permanent
campus on the river bank of Sabarmati at Palej. The process of construction will start soon.

3. Which facilities have been provided in the current (temporary) campus?
The current campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College premises has all the
basic facilities like classrooms, labs, hostels and sports grounds, etc.

4. How are the internet facilities?
The entire institute and the hostels are well equipped with high speed Wi-Fi internet
facilities along with LAN facilities.

5. What is the climate like in Gandhinagar?
Gandhinagar has generally a dry climate apart from the monsoon months of June to
September. March to June are hot summer days with average maximum temperature of
about 36℃ while the months of November to February are winter with temperature
ranging between 15℃ to 30℃, which can occasionally drop to 5℃.
Academics

1. In what way is IIT Bombay associated with IIT Gandhinagar?
Each of the new IIT that were established was to be mentored by an existing IIT. IIT
Gandhinagar is being mentored by IIT Bombay.

2. How good is the academic infrastructure? What kind of Labs does IIT Gandhinagar have?
The basic infrastructure is in place at IIT Gandhinagar. We have our own well setup Labs for
each department. Besides this there are student run labs to promote innovation and
research in the college.
